While there is no way you can completely prevent yourself from contracting the coronavirus, there are a few things you can do to reduce the risk of becoming infected.
The most obvious and well known ways to prevent infection is by washing your hands, staying at home as much as possible, not touching her face, and wearing a mask if you do have to go out.
But there is one other simple thing you can do as a preventative measure, and that is keeping properly hydrated.
A healthy and well hydrated body is one of your first lines of defense when it comes to fighting off illnesses, including viruses like the coronavirus.
Drinking enough water throughout the day means that you are properly hydrated, and your body can function in the most efficient and effective way possible and, of course, this includes your immune system and its ability to function at an ideal level.
Since the human body is made up of approximately 70% water, hydration is one of the most important key roles in keeping us healthy and our bodies running smoothly. Without drinking enough water, we tend to feel tired, sluggish, moody, headachy, hungrier for less healthy foods, and rundown.
Therefore, it is no wonder that not being hydrated can make humans more susceptible to illness. Drinking enough water while also following a healthy diet packed with fruits and vegetables, no smoking, reduced alcohol consumption, and moving your body throughout the day will reduce the risk of contracting the novel coronavirus.
In more detail, drinking water allows your cells to oxygenate properly. When your cells are receiving plenty of oxygen, the cells are able to work at full capacity. When they are working properly, your cells are able to protect your body against any foreign infections and viruses by fighting them off if you are exposed to them.
Drinking enough water also can regulate your body temperature, which is essential. If you have come down with a fever, a very common symptom of the coronavirus, you can also up your water intake to help your body move important nutrients to and throughout your body helping your body speed up recovery.
Staying hydrated even if you become sick can also help all of the disease causing germs now in your body be removed by flushing out the germs.
You have likely heard your mother and doctors all throughout your life to tell you to stay hydrated when you become sick, especially if you have a fever. And now we know that this is because it helps to flush out all of those unhealthy germs and viruses out of our body.
While drinking water is not going to cure the coronavirus or any other type of virus or sickness, it will help you feel better, keep your body and immune system properly functioning, and may even help speed up your recovery time.
It is important to remember that there is nothing you can do to fully prevent yourself from contacting the coronavirus. We also have yet to find a cure and there are still uncertainties surrounding the best way to treat people, especially when they become critically ill.
With that being said, taking a few simple precautions to help prevent yourself from contacting this virus can help an incredible amount.
Washing your hands frequently, avoiding contact with others, staying home, eating healthy, covering sneeze sand coughs, along with proper hydration levels than the body can all help keep your body healthy and strong, so you have a better chance of fighting off the illness.
Some of the easiest ways to increase your water intake throughout the day is to always keep your water bottle filled and bring it with you wherever you go. Sip on your water bottle throughout the day, flavor your water with citrus fruits and fresh fruits, and try some unsweetened sparkling water to mix things up.
Remember, hydration is one of your body's first lines of defense against fighting off viruses and illnesses. So, increase your water intake to help protect yourself and the loved ones around you from COVID-19.
